ADVANTAGES OF A GOOD ACIDIFIER

ADVANTAGES OF A GOOD ACIDIFIER

(SELKO®-ALPHA)

  • Reduces FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio)
  • Reduces mobility.
  • Reduced mortality
  • Dry liter
  • Increase ADG (Average Daily Gain)
  • Improves laying percentage in layers.

Selko®-Alpha reduces and stabilizes pH in water + stomach and creates a healthy microbial balance. Feed digestion is improved resulting in optimal feed utilization, health, and animal performance. This is the best acidifier for both poultry and pigs.

WATER QUALITY FOR LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY https://housefarm.co.ke/2025/03/21/water-quality-for-livestock-and-poultry/ https://housefarm.co.ke/2025/03/21/water-quality-for-livestock-and-poultry/#respond Fri, 21 Mar 2025 12:44:06 +0000 https://housefarm.co.ke/?p=292

Maintaining quality water for both livestock and poultry is not only essential business but also a basic need for the animals. Dr Jael has a few pointers on how to maintain water quality:

  • Cleanliness: Regular cleaning of water tanks, troughs, and pipes is essential to prevent the buildup of organic matter and biofilms.
  • pH Levels: The pH of water should be within the optimal range for the specific species. For poultry and most livestock, the ideal pH range is typically between 6.5 and 8.5. Extreme pH levels can cause irritation to the animals’ digestive tracts.
  • Hardness: Hard water, which contains high levels of minerals such as calcium and magnesium, can affect water consumption and lead to scaling in water lines and equipment.
  • Salinity: High levels of salts in water can be harmful to animals, causing dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Microbial Contamination: Bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens can proliferate in water and cause diseases in poultry and livestock.
  • Chemical Contaminants: Water should be tested regularly for chemical contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and pollutants from runoff or industrial sources.
  • Temperature: Water temperature can influence animal hydration and comfort, particularly in extreme weather conditions. Providing access to cool, fresh water during hot weather can help prevent heat stress in poultry and livestock.
  • Flow Rate: Adequate water flow rate is essential to ensure animals have access to a sufficient supply of water, especially during peak demand periods.
  • Accessibility: Waterers should be designed and positioned to ensure easy access for all animals, including young, sick, or injured individuals.
